Antique Edwardian Opalescent Cranberry and Vaseline glass brides basket with Silver plated stand
Antique Edwardian Opalescent Cranberry and uranium glass brides basket with Silver plated stand.
Highly fashionable as a wedding gift in the 1900's this beautiful crafted item stands the test of time. Delicately crimped and ribbed with a flower like form, adorned with a rippled collar of Vaseline Glass standing atop a silver plated Art Nouveau style stand with delicate leaf shaped feet.
The AB&Co stamp belongs to Albert Beardshaw & Co., an established silversmith and electroplate manufacturer based in Sheffield, England.
The SIMPSON stamp indicates it was custom-made for or retailed by a British department store or jeweler of that name (such as the historic Simpson retailers).
As it is silver-plated rather than solid sterling silver, it does not feature official crown or lion town assay hallmarks. Instead, it uses these specific maker's stamps which were standard practice in the UK's historic silver-plating industry.
Brilliant condition, no chips or cracks to glass, EPNS stand it in fantastic condition also, and have been sensitively polished to restore this item it's former glory.
Bowl height 6 x width 13 cm
Stand height 16 x width of 16 cm
Fantastic green glow to the glass, starting at the bottom where it's more concentrated, note: images taken with UV light torch, 395nm wavelength.
All items are sensitively and minimally cleaned
Any questions please don't hesitate to drop me a message. I am very happy to pass on any additional information, or images you may need, if you are interested in more than one item I can arrange a combined postage price. Many thanks.
All items will be packaged using recycled or reused materials to help minimise any environmental impact.
Please be aware that you are purchasing a vintage item. We mention any obvious defects to the glass such as chips, cracks, etc. in our description but there may also be minor manufacturing faults eg. marks from the mould, straw marks and air bubbles, which is normal for glass of this era.
