Early 19th Century Antique Baccarat Blue & White Opaline Glass 'Pineapple' Perfume bottle
Baccarat, Circa 1845-65
This striking opaline glass perfume bottle is crafted in the distinctive pineapple style, a design once synonymous with luxury and exoticism. The vibrant blue body takes inspiration from the ancient pelike form, featuring a rounded, bulbous silhouette textured to resemble the skin of a pineapple. The bottle tapers gracefully into a slender neck, flaring out at the mouth, which is encircled with delicate gilt bands. Topping each one is an opaque white opaline glass stopper.
Pineapple mania swept through Europe in the early 18th century, as the fruit—imported from the New World—became a rare and expensive novelty. Revered as a symbol of status, hospitality, and global exploration, the pineapple quickly found its way into architecture and decorative arts. The fascination continued well into the 19th century, with the fruit remaining a celebrated motif of elite taste.
