Jules Barbe for Thomas Webb, hand gilded and enamelled late 19th century on satin Custard glass

£1,100.00

A pair of custard glass vases by Thomas Webb, hand gilded in the manner of Jules Barbe. Each vase features decorative gilded detailing including an image of a bird perched on a branch. The opaque custard glass body provides a soft contrast to the delicate gilt work.

Thomas Webb & Sons, established in 1837 in Stourbridge, England was renowned for producing high quality art glass, including hand gilded custard glass vases. Custard glass, characterised by its opaque, pale yellow appearance, was often enhanced with intricate gilded designs.

Custard glass is highly collectible, especially pieces with hand-painted floral patterns or gold gilding

Brilliant condition.

Provenance: from the collection of John and Poppy Stallebrass.

All items are sensitively and minimally cleaned

Any questions please don't hesitate to drop me a message. I am very happy to pass on any additional information, or images you may need, if you are interested in more than one item I can arrange a combined postage price. Many thanks.

All items will be packaged using recycled or reused materials to help minimise any environmental impact.

Please be aware that you are purchasing a vintage item. We mention any obvious defects to the glass such as chips, cracks, etc. in our description but there may also be minor manufacturing faults eg. marks from the mould, straw marks and air bubbles, which is normal for glass of this era.
